Meet The Makers: Aran Traditions

Inspired by the traditions of the Aran Isles. Aran Traditions create classic designs with contemporary details. The folklore and tales of the islands have connected Celtic families for generations.

Living just off the coast of Galway the Aran Islanders face the wrath of the Atlantic Ocean every day. The classic Aran sweater was created here with a signature cable knitted for every fisherman. These traditional designs have been passed down through generations and the Aran cable is now recognised as a definitive symbol of Celtic heritage.

Alan from Aran Traditions explains to us, ‘We began, back in 2010 with one cream Tammy hat inspired by these wonderful Aran cables.  Today this traditional cable Pom Pom hat is still one of our best sellers but our collection has grown to over 200 products.  With such a wealth of inspiration, we are constantly designing new products and our collection is always growing. Our latest Pop Up collections includes beanie hats with cute cable rib detail in a soft pastel Donegal effect yarn and diamond cable pom pom hats with contrast faux fur in blush pink, slate blue, and mushroom shades’.

The products are made with good quality soft acrylic mix yarn for super soft comfort and easy care. For the lovely soft pom poms, only faux fur is used.

The small team based in Glasgow, Scotland has tried and tested all of the products in most environments including up the side of Ben Nevis and on the side of a football pitch on a wet Saturday morning!

Aran Traditions are extremely proud of their products, with their ultimate goal being to put a smile on your face!
