“In 1934, the Newbridge inspiration came from a local school teacher, Senator Cummins, the national leader of the Labour party William Norton and Joe McGrath Snr who previously played in the historic treaty negotiation of 1921. It was they who formed a committee to encourage local industrial development”
Using leftover resources left by the army and with the knowledge of locals, The Newbridge Cutlery Company was born. In the face of falling demand for formal tableware, William and his team discover they have in-house capabilities for jewellery manufacturing. The first Newbridge jewellery collection reflects the simple and elegant design of the time and is a huge success both then and now.
